I am Peter Elstob and I live in Parkhurst, Johannesburg, South Africa.
I am fortunate to have (or am having) had an enjoyable and satisfying life. I married Jenny in 2003 and we have had our share of both good times and a few difficult times.
This website or blog is to document some of the many things I (and we) have done and am interested in.
Mazambaan is derived from the isiZulu word “mazambane” which means potato. I have used this as a business name for some time owing to the fact that I farmed potatoes for a few seasons.
I started full time farming in the Greytown area of KwaZulu Natal in 1976 carrying out mixed farming there. I built a fairly large piggery with about 120 breeding sows fattening their progeny up to baconer weight (about 90kg live mass).
I also farmed dryland maize & soyabeans as well as irrigated cabbages and potatoes.
My then wife, Sandy, took over the farming operation in 1982 and I went back to working full time at a private company in the agricultural field. www.pannar.com
Since retiring from an international oil company in 2008 I have been enjoying my retirement with my wife Jenny by trying to include as much fun and enjoyment in our lives as financially possible. www.sasol.com
I have created this Mazambaan website to put together information about my life, experiences, trials and tribulations
