Since retiring at the age of 64 in 2008 I was diagnosed as a type 1 or type 2 diabetic in November 2009. The doctor and specialist were not certain about the type as I had sudden onset of the disease (Blood glucose at diagnosis was 36.5 mmol/L). I did not respond to any of the normal oral medications so I started insulin therapy (4x per day) within a few weeks.
